Cryptic Studios is looking for a talented Environment Artist to bring the MMO world of Neverwinter to life! Located in Northern California near Silicon Valley, we offer the fun, focused and casual atmosphere of a small video game developer. Every day you could be:

  • Creating vast exterior environments, twisting dungeons and rich story-driven content for our adventurers
  • Collaborating with a team of artists, designers and producers who love Dungeons & Dragons to create visually stunning content steeped in the lore of the Forgotten Realms
  • Using 3D Studio Max or Maya, ZBrush, Substance, Photoshop to build modular environment assets, set dressing and hero props for new Neverwinter content
  • Iterating on game assets and environments with fellow artists in a collaborative work environment
  • Owning a wide variety of environment art work such as art asset creation, layout and propping, lighting, performance optimization, and prototyping/conceptualization

What we'd like to see:

  • 3+ years’ experience creating real time 3D environments for video games
  • Expert level proficiency with 3ds Max, ZBrush, Substance, Photoshop or equivalent 3D and 2D software
  • Demonstrated ability to create high quality work in a broad range of styles, within technical constraints, using proprietary systems and tools
  • Ability to author PBR materials and all associated maps for new or existing assets, as well as older texturing methods
  • Strong world building design instincts and ability to create environments that enhance gameplay
  • Artistic ability to visualize entire levels with minimal concept art and direction
  • Exceptional eye for proportion, scale, gameplay space and flow, and material/surface properties
  • Strong understanding of color, form, shape, structure, and silhouette
  • Demonstrated ability to create a variety of moods through lighting while maintaining gameplay and performance requirements
  • Self-motivated, humble, excellent communication skills and a team-player attitude
  • BA or BS degree in art or equivalent work experience

Pluses:

  • Solid foundation in traditional art, drawing, painting, illustration and/or concept art
  • Strong technical ability and willingness to learn new tools, techniques and workflows
  • Basic proficiency creating environmental VFX and/or environmental animations
  • Passion for Dungeons and Dragons and Neverwinter
